Philip has a robust background in patent and intellectual property law, particularly in mechanical and manufacturing patents. His specialisation in designs, and has over 20 years of experience in drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications in various jurisdictions, makes him a valuable asset for clients ranging from universities to corporations and start-ups.
With a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree from the University of Canterbury and practical experience as a design engineer in the automotive, manufacturing, and oil industries, Philip possesses deep technical knowledge in several areas, including manufacturing machinery, hydraulics, robotic systems, and more. His transition into the patent profession in 1999 and subsequent qualifications as a Patent and Trade Mark Attorney in 2004 demonstrate his commitment to the field.
Since joining Marks & Clerk in 2006 and becoming a partner in 2013, Philip has played a significant role in the firm's operations, particularly in addressing the intellectual property needs of clients in Hong Kong and beyond. His combination of engineering experience and legal expertise positions him well to provide strategic guidance on patentability, commercialization assessments, and intellectual property management.
