22 March 2022

This week, we sit down with Mahum Safavi, a member of our busy Marketing & Business Development team, to learn what it's like to support the firms global business outreach from North America to Asia Pacific.

Q. What is your role at Marks & Clerk?

A. I am the International Business Development Executive at Marks & Clerk. My role is very unique in that majority of my work is focused on developing and growing relationships in our key international regions.

Q. What does Intellectual Property mean to you?

A. Before I joined Marks and Clerk I actually knew very little about Intellectual Property! However, after working here for nearly 4 years, I'm pleased to report that even though I now have a deep understanding of our sector, I still learn something new almost every day. To me, IP is an asset that a firm or individual invests in. When a firm or individual invests in their IP, they are investing in protection - protecting their ideas, inventions, brands or logos and future proofing them against any threats. I really enjoy knowing I play a role in helping businesses protect their IP and therefore, hopefully scale up and become the next household name!

Q. What were you doing before you joined Marks & Clerk?

A. I worked in a Client Development role at a full service law firm.

Q. What would surprise readers to learn about your role?

A. One thing that surprises me about my role is that there is no rule book and definitely no one, right way of doing things. I am free to bring new ideas to the table and everyone is very open to hearing them.

Q. What does a typical day look like for you?

A. I know it's a cliché, but there definitely is no such thing as a typical day in my role and that’s what I love about it. Each day is completely different from the last, which means I get to be involved in a number of exciting projects and I’m constantly learning new things!

Q. And finally, if you had to sum your role up in 3 words what would they be?

A. Exciting, varied and unique.

Do you have what it takes to join Mahum in our Marketing & Business Development team? The good news is that we are on the look out for bright, enthusiastic team players who are looking to embrace a challenge, just like Mahum, in Manchester, Birmingham & Oxford.
