Chris Pratt

Chris is an intellectual property lawyer who advises clients on all aspects of intellectual property law, with a particular focus on advising clients in the life sciences sector on multi-jurisdictional patent disputes.  Chris has handled litigation before the Patents Court, the Court of Appeal and the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and has experience of co-ordinating and harmonising strategy with litigation teams in other jurisdictions including the United States and across Europe (including parallel EPO opposition proceedings). Chris has extensive experience of advising clients on their full range of options and obligations before litigation – including interim injunctive relief, pre-action disclosure, and jurisdictional challenges – and throughout litigation proceedings, all the way to trial.

He is especially well-placed to advise pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients given his background in chemistry and law. One major pharmaceutical client has praised Chris for his “encyclopaedic knowledge”, his responsiveness, and his ability to “grasp points very rapidly indeed”. Chris has acted on a number of patent disputes and contractual disputes concerning a wide range of technical subject-matter within the life sciences sector, including: therapeutic antibodies for the treatment of inflammatory disease, the development of a small molecule therapy for the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, meningitis B vaccines, and anti-cancer therapeutics.

Outside of the life sciences area, Chris has advised clients on patent disputes involving a variety of technical fields, including: human-computer interaction, secure payment systems, and conservatory design. He also has experience of advising clients in relation to standards-essential patents and FRAND issues. Chris has advised clients on disputes involving trade marks and passing off, registered and unregistered designs, copyright, and breach of confidence in a variety of sectors, including FMCG, fashion, oil and gas, and software. On the non-contentious side, Chris’ work has included advising on intellectual property aspects of corporate transactions and advising on intellectual property licensing arrangements.

Chris joined the firm in August 2014 and became a Managing Associate in August 2017. He is recognised as: a Patent Litigation Rising Star in MIP IP Stars (2018/19), “good at technical matters” in Legal 500 (2017/18), and a “key figure” in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors in Legal 500 (2016/17). Outside work, Chris enjoys golf, making macarons, cookery and wine.
