Campbell Newell

Campbell is a partner in our Edinburgh office and handles a wide variety of trade mark and patent work.

He was born and educated in Scotland and obtained an honours degree in Technology Engineering and Management. Campbell has experience in the motor industry and after a period as a university lecturer, he joined the firm’s Edinburgh office where he qualified as a European and UK Patent Attorney and is a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. Campbell handles the IP for a wide range of businesses from SMEs through to multi-nationals.

In 2016, Campbell was named as an 'IP Star' by Managing Intellectual Property, and recommended by IAM Patent 1000 which says he “brings the rigour of a seasoned academic to his practice”. He is singled out in the World Trademark Review 1000 2016 which notes that he is "incredibly commercial and user-friendly" and “he is so focused on those he represents and really understands their objectives”. He was also recommended in the 2015 edition of Legal 500, and mentioned in the 2016 edition for giving “reliable and clear advice”.

He has particular experience in managing large IP portfolios (patent and trade marks) and providing strategic advice to senior management. Campbell advises some of Scotland’s best known brand owners and has a specialist knowledge of Scotch whisky.
