David Moreland

David practices in the technical fields of electronic, electrical and mechanical inventions. His work has particular emphasis on oil and gas related technologies, energy, optics and nanotechnologies, as well as in automotive and motorcycle inventions, and technical textiles. He represents a wide range of clients from start-ups to SMEs and corporates/multi-nationals. Being a Patent Attorney Litigator, David has wide experience in oppositions and appeals and in litigation matters.
David has an honours degree in Physics and Electronic Engineering and a Doctorate in Optoelectronics from the University of Glasgow. After studying Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary College, University of London, he qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney.
David has been recognised as a leading patent practitioner in various publications. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, Managing Intellectual Property named him an ‘IP Star’. He was also recommended in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 IAM Patent 1000 guides.
Being a member of the CIPA Litigation Committee and Pro Bono Committee, David has led CIPA’s representations on law reforms before the Scottish Government. He is a contributor to the CIPA/ITMA Community Designs Handbook. David is a member of AIPLA, and is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He is also a Chartered Physicist and a Member of the Institute of Physics.

Presently, David is Liaison Partner for Marks & Clerk Luxembourg. Previously, he was Glasgow Office Managing Partner for seven years.
