Jonathan is an Associate and a patent litigator at Marks & Clark Law advising across both the life sciences and high-tech sectors.
Alongside patent litigation, Jonathan also advises on trademarks, design rights, copyright matters and trade secrets, with experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and advising on intellectual property protection strategies.
Once a Canadian Institute of Health Research Fellow, specialising in the intersection between healthcare, bioethics and law, Jonathan’s scientific focus married with a law degree from Oxford, has led him to the world of life sciences and high-tech IP law. While at the University of Toronto, Jonathan considered the use of compulsory licences for HIV/AIDS medicaments, the availability of fair use provisions in Canadian copyright law, the off-formulary use of pharmaceuticals for paediatric patients and the potential application of statutory ownership regimes to provide IP protections for excised human tissue.
The increasing integration and evolving nature of both the life sciences and high-tech sectors mean that Jonathan is a key player in both teams, with a focus on AI and AI in healthcare.
Jonathan is an avid rugby fan and enjoys ice hockey, golf and improvised comedy.
