Finalists for the Oxford Trust Enterprise Awards 2018 announced

6 July 2018

The Oxford Trust has announced the finalists for its 2018 Enterprise Awards, which recognise and celebrate the breadth of innovative companies and individual entrepreneurs who are working in the science and technology industry in the Oxfordshire region today.

The awards, which are run in partnership with Venturefest Oxford and sponsored by Barclays, Marks & Clerk, Advanced Oxford, and Triteq, recognise entrepreneurs and start-ups who are just starting out on their journey to success. They also celebrate established science and tech businesses and individuals who are making an impact on the regional economy. The awards have been running since 2005 and have previously showcased future high-growth companies such as Oxbotica, Immunocore and Adaptix.

The 2018 awards will be presented at an evening reception on Wednesday 12th September at Oxford Brookes University, after Venturefest Oxford.

The award categories are:

  • Triteq Young Entrepreneur Award – recognising and celebrating young founders (under 40) of science and technology companies in Oxfordshire.
  • Advanced Oxford Technology Breakthrough Award – this new category highlights a product or technology that could be a game changer in the field that it operates. The short list for this category will be announced later in July.
  • Barclays Award for Innovation – is given to a company that has already spotted an opportunity in the tech market and has successfully created a business that meets the need and benefits wider society and the economy.
  • The Oxford Trust Outstanding Achievement Award– celebrating an entrepreneur who has made an outstanding contribution to innovation and society during their lifetime and has had a major impact on enterprise and economy. The recipient of this award will be announced in August.

The judging panel, which consisted of award sponsors and industry experts, was asked to consider applications for the Triteq Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Barclays Award for Innovation.

Steve Burgess, CEO of The Oxford Trust, said: “There was a strong list of applicants for both awards, which made it extremely difficult for the judges to shortlist a final three for each category.”

The Oxford Trust was established by Oxford’s first true entrepreneurs Sir Martin and Audrey (Lady) Wood in 1985, founders of Oxford Instruments – the first spin-out company from the University of Oxford. The Trust has been a part of, and supported, the local innovation ecosystem for the past thirty years. It was the Trust that helped establish Venturefest Oxford 20 years ago, started the Enterprise Awards in 2005, set up the region’s – and the UK’s – first innovation centre, and runs the Oxford Centre for Innovation to support start-up science and tech businesses. The Trust is opening a new innovation centre – the Wood Centre for Innovation – and Science Oxford Education Centre in Headington in 2019.
