Experience

James has acquired experience in patents in virtually all technical fields. He has also prepared and prosecuted patent applications in such fields as electronics, mechanical and electro-mechanical inventions, audio and video apparatus, semiconductor technologies and processing equipment, automation and industrial systems, manufacturing machinery, materials handling equipment, defence equipment, telecommunications, internet-related inventions and business methods. James has extensive experience of Chinese, European, UK and Singapore patents, Chinese, European and UK trade marks and Chinese, UK and Singapore designs and currently advises clients in many aspects of Chinese IP protection.

James graduated from Cambridge University in 1989, with a degree in Engineering Science, and obtained a postgraduate diploma in Computer Science in 1990, also from Cambridge University. He entered the patent profession in 1990, working in private practice in London, where he qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and as a European Patent Attorney. He moved to work in private practice in Singapore in 2000, where he qualified as a Singapore patent agent before joining Lloyd Wise and moving to Beijing in 2004.
